As crypto researcher & critic Molly White reports, FTX were supposed to pay Riot an escalating annual sum of millions all the way into 2028. They’ve gone bankrupt, so now Riot have filed a motion for their deal to be cancelled, which seems reasonable. Riot’s legal motion also argues that they’re suffering reputational damage, given FTX has turned out to be specifically fradulant rather than just regular crypto fradulant. Top execs there literally had a secret chat called “Wirefraud”, which is why Bankman-Fried was trying to avoid testifying before the House Financial Services Committee by hiding in The Bahamas....

I still haven’t seen Brokeback, but Yang also compares the game to Firewatch and Death Stranding, mostly thanks to the hiking. That Lonesome Valley sees sheepherders Jose and Bud gathering those most elusive of even-toed ungulates, and finding their way around their relationship in the Wyoming countryside. This isn’t just a retread of Brokeback Mountain though. Both Bud and Jose are very aware of Brokeback, and reference it during the game....

Less than a month after the show’s release, there are already dozens if not hundreds of Squid Game inspired experiences on Roblox. Well, that’s not entirely true. While new players will no longer be able to download Rocket League from Steam, existing players will still receive updates. They’ll still be able to play with new drivers on Epic, and their inventories will carry over should they decide to switch platforms. But you won’t be forced into using the Epic launcher unless this is your first time behind the wheel. Anyone who’s played Rocket League before the switch to free-to-play will also have their account bumped up to “Legacy” status....

If I didn’t have that grey crate of Things I Must Keep, I’m not sure it would have survived. The vessel of wires, power supplies, four mostly dead gaming mice, and more, kept it safe. Saints Row The Third: Remastered is probably the best version of Saints Row The Third you could get. It just depends what that means to you in the cold light of 2020, I suppose. Probably still the most beloved of the Saints games (though I still have a soft spot for Gat Out Of Hell), The Third opens with a bank robbery seguing into a mid-air shootout on a plane, followed by an extended skydive....

Scott Pilgrim VS The World: The Game is, shockingly, a game of millenial college hit comic series Scott Pilgrim VS The World (and not, notably, the Cera fronted film). A fairly traditionally-styled beat ’em up, the game itself was a proper stunner - painting incredible pixel-art interpretations of comic scenes, backed by an all-timer of an Anamanaguchi album....

HBO’s TV version of The Last Of Us has been called “the perfect video game adaptation” by The Guardian, and “the best video game adaptation ever” by the BBC. Our Katharine’s been watching it herself, and is currently on the fence about whether she’ll have enough energy to also play the game by the time the show finishes. I know people who are trying to play along with the game on PlayStation as they’re keeping up with the show week by week, which sounds like a lot of time investment for just one thing....

The year is 1996 and you’re the nighttime security guard at a company called Nova Nexus. You’ve got five pages of license plates and employee names to flip through and naturally you’re only meant to press the big red button to allow actual employees in. You’ve got to leave your booth to take a peep at each car’s plate, which made me fear that one of them would simply run me over or honk at me or some other unfair jump scare....

All the while Shin Megami Tensei was doing its thing in Japan, actively encouraging you to negotiate with a snake with the head of a dog in order to secure your rule in post-apocalyptic hellscapes. Pikachu was just a diversion! Well played, The Devil, well played. It’s not just the demonic entities that give Shin Megami Tensei infernal energy; it’s the whole process of ensnaring them. Instead of wearing creatures down and snatching them at their most vulnerable, a la Pokémon press-ganging, you sweeten devils with bribes before opening a dialogue where you convince them that your motivations align....

You can watch guards using their newfound power in the video here. I can see this mod becoming something of an unrelenting farce. Interestingly though, modder hesmick has even given a wee snippet of lore for why everyone is suddenly able to shout. “The Dragonborn is asleep, he’s dreaming the whole thing,” hesmick says. So it’s like Bobby Ewing suddenly appearing alive in the shower on Dallas, or the Bouncer’s dream skit on Neighbours....

Or should that be ’tail’? As the eagle-eyed among you may have spotted, our mousy hero Verm is missing his distinctive wiggly appendage, and the thrust of the game will be about him seeking revenge against the ‘yellow god’ (that is, a rather mysterious human in a hazmat suit) who took it from him. It’s a charming mix of medieval fantasy tropes in a modern day setting, and I enjoyed seeing how relatively mundane objects and places like a London supermarket got mythologised as a heavenly buffet for these lowly sewer-dwellers....

Facebook are cancelling their physical presence at the show but are still planning to present information digitally, they said in a statement to GamesIndustryBiz. Similarly, Sony are also backing down from attending the event in person to protect their personnel. Sony’s change in plans is not altogether surprising, given that they had already cancelled their plans to attend PAX East next weekend where they were expected to debut new information about The Last Of Us 2....

It’s a welcome change of pace, taking all of the complex, interconnected systems of a colony management simulator and sticking them in a big metal box that zooms through space. You’ve got the familiar and ruthlessly simulated wants and needs of your inhabitants to contend with. Each member of your crew is cursed with the ability to feel discomfort and sadness. They come with their own traits and skills, making them more or less proficient at operating parts of the ship and more or less compatible with their colleagues....

Here’s a trailer that was released alongside the launch: The story goes that humanity had begun to colonise space when the destruction of earth plunged “the galaxy into a new Dark Age.” The game then takes place centuries later, with the simple, feudal (but spacefaring) society that remains unable to “comprehend or advance the technological artefacts they use to survive.” I guess all the engineers lived on earth or something, but in lieu of bringing your enemies to heel with better technology, you “herd your unruly vassals, build political alliances, and navigate a web of agendas, political intrigue and social obligations....
