Have You Played Towns

You couldn’t control your heroes, nor even your townspeople. All you could do was build buildings, tile by tile, in a fashion that really reminded me of construction in my beloved Dwarf Fortress. What you built determined what you got, hero-wise. Rooms built on the second floor of a tavern would bring in various types of bruisers, depending on the decor you laid out. Beyond that… I forget. It’s hard to tell now, what was in the game, what was nearly in the game, and what was just planned feature creep in the long spiral towards the game’s death in 2014....

Have You Played Iron Snout

If you like games where you go around beating ‘em up, Iron Snout is worth a go. Like most fighting games, you’ll end up discovering a surprisingly deep combat system. You’ll string together moves as best you can to simultaneously avoid your enemies’ attacks, use their own weapons against them, and punch their lights out. It’s a game of endurance, and after a couple of deaths you’ll become something of an expert at beating the piss out of cop-wolf hybrids....

Have You Played Linelight

Linelight is a game about moving your happy little block of light along line-based levels. Your aim is quite simply to get to the end of the level, which in practice means avoiding the red blocks of light patrolling the world, and flicking switches in the right orders in order to move bits of the level around, building yourself a path through which you can proceed. Most satisfying of all are the moments where you can manipulate the red blocks into flicking the switches for you....

Hearthstone Is Getting Very Confusing

Last week, I posted about how there were apparently big things in the works for Blizzard’s colourful, card-based coin machine - and I could cope with that, because it’s coming up to the time of year where the Hearthstone devs usually announce the themes of the game for the year ahead. But this week, they dropped an entirely unexpected - and completely unrelated - update for the game, and watching its forty second trailer made me feel like I’d had my brain cut out and replaced with an accordion and a box of cheap fireworks....

Highlights From Gamesplanet S Biggest Sale Of The Year

See the Gamesplanet 2021 Summer Sale Let’s start with the 24 hour flash deals, as these will turn into pumpkins at the stroke of midnight (or something). Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 3 for £6.74 is a great deal, as the 2017 release still costs £40 on Steam. Fraser reckoned it was well worth playing, despite a few flaws that have hopefully been tackled post-launch. The Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Trilogy is another great value pick, selling for £16 - a little over half price....

Honkai Star Rail S Latest Trailer Shows More Of Its Cosy Space Train

Here’s the video from tonight’s Gamescom Opening Night Live: Honkai: Star Rail is from HoYoVerse, and as the name suggest, it’s connected to their action RPG Honkai Impact 3rd. Where it differs is that Star Rail has turn-based combat instead of real-time hack-and-slashing. You’ll still explore large regions with a party of characters and have plenty of dialogue with anime locals, but encountering enemies will shift you into a battle arena....

Horizon Zero Dawn Pc Patch Stops Aloy Being A Child Forever

One player posted their own weird experience with the childhood bug on Reddit (via Kotaku) last month, explaining that their game crashed during the cutscene where main character Aloy is supposed to grow up. I Hope Watching New World S Closed Beta Will Finally Excite Me

Dungeons and quests are all well and good but I spent over a decade on much of the same. If there’s anything to watch for, I imagine it’s those Outpost Rush matches. Large-scale PvP isn’t revolutionary for MMORPGs, but it’s a potential area for New World to stand out in. I’d also like to get a look at how its combat currently feels. New World is going for a more action-y style of RPG combat, with its free aim for ranged weapons and lots of movement....

Industries Of Titan Review A Curious Hybrid Builder That S Less Than The Sum Of Its Parts

All of those parts are present, and as a bonus it’s incredibly gorgeous, with strong voice acting and a distinctive soundtrack that will haunt my head for weeks. Most of its parts are made to a high standard, it’s tragic that its final design just doesn’t work at all. Of all things, IOT reminds me of Fragile Allegiance. You’re a ‘founder’, sent to an already colonised and abandoned Titan to build a new city at the behest of the Council....

Intel Core I5 13600K Review A Repeat Performance For Better Or Worse

That 12th Gen chip, which currently heads up our best CPU for gaming rankings, proved an excellent debut for Intel’s hybrid design: fast Performance cores, or P-cores, share the space with smaller and less wattage-hungry Efficiency cores (E-cores). Raptor Lake doesn’t change this much, but the Core i5-13600K does find itself the recipient of a few extra E-cores, bringing its total combined core count to 14 – the most of any Core i5 CPU yet....

Kerbal Space Program Developer S Balsa Model Flight Simulator Is Out Now

Like Kerbal before it, BMFS lets you click together prefab parts to construct your machine, before you take it on a test flight. After that initial flight ends in inevitable disaster, you can tweak your construction until eventually you have a controllable flying machine. Everything is physically simulated, so even shunting a flap or a twisting a wing a few inches can change the aerodynamics. You can choose to build in order to tackle challenges in a career mode, or to build for the fun of it in a mess around sandbox, or to pit your creations against other players or AI in paintball dogfights....
