Arriving in this week’s update, Rust’s modular motors come in three sizes - from knackered old hatchbacks to gnarly minibuses fit for a wasteland road trip. Scattered by the roadside, Rust’s battered jalopies will start off in a right state - beaten to hell, with no fuel and totally busted engines. Low-tier engine parts and fuel can be found scattered around the map, with more reliable components available at the Compound....
But the thing that surprised me most during its hour-long demo was the way we got to hear Sable’s inner thoughts as she chatted to her fellow camp mates. For whatever reason, I wasn’t expecting this, and at times it almost felt like I was reading a book - and what a lovely book it was, too.

SCS say that update 1.41 is the first iteration of the Convoy mode. “We have a long list of improvements and features already collected to consider for future major updates, and we are sure more suggestions will come,” they say. Here’s what the experimental version of the Convoy mode allows for so far: “There is also an option, before you leave the Convoy, to restore your game progress to a previous save game state, which may be handy if you are not happy with what happened to your truck, cargo, or wallet during your Convoy driving session,” SCS say, while looking directly at that one co-op pal in the group, I imagine....
As we learned last week, this month’s update is adding the Chest Of Rage. Like other cursed chests, you’ll want to keep an eye on it. The thing throws a proper tantrum if you leave it unattended, heating up to glowing hot until it discharges a ring of fire that will set your ship ablaze. I’ve yet to find the solution in fewer than 50 guesses. Semantle, built by David Turner, uses Word2vec, an algorithm created by researchers at Google which can crawl through a large amount of text and, on its own, work out how words relate to one another....
According to SGDQ’s announcement, the event will now run from August 16-23, 2020 in Bloomington, MN. Here are the other highlights of SGDQ’s rescheduling: attendee registration will now be from June 7th to July 20th. Game submissions will reopen from April 29th through May 9th. Acclaim tried to claim newspaper headlines with shocking, gross, and craven marketing stunts, and they often succeeded....

There might be no real signs of any proper Knights Of The Old Republic follow-up visible from here to the outer rim - but in the meantime, you can get some of your laser-sword RPG cravings on Steam from EA’s long-running Star Wars MMO. Running for just shy of a decade, The Old Republic dips into singleplayer stories enough that you may as well forget there are thousands of other Jedi running all over the shop....
As ever, though, the concept of “genre” has tripped me up like a rake in the dark, and left me flailing to define what connects the six games below. I guess, if there’s a unifying concept, it’s plopping buildings down. Although whether you do that from the top or the side, and whether you use those buildings to create resources, to make little fightoes to attack other buildings with, or to do a bit of both, varies from game to game....
Valve held their first Steam Game Festival in December alongside The Game Awards. It was the highlight of that charade and a good idea to revisit - especially now. With so many public and industry events cancelled, people are trying to come up with alternatives. The Game Developers Conference is broadcasting on Twitch a selection of talks that were due to happen at the industry event this week in San Francisco until it was postponed....

Apparently, the ultimate goal is to return peace and tranquillity to the Valley by using much of the hacking and the slashing. Although there’s no new footage we can bring you, life in the Valley does seem brutal going by the footage shown by 505 Games today. The player was blown up and killed in a magical explosion to even get to the Valley, for a start, and the whole shebang revolves around mastering special metals to forge weapons to see off the irate residents....
Still, episode 14 (which is now episode 13, even though I say 14 in the recording) is now here for you to enjoy. It’s all about bad and obsolete palaeontology - the weird ways people in history interpreted fossils, and why.
It’s a classic Telltale romp with quips and quicktime events and episodes and all. The story is set after Gearbox’s Borderlands 2, following Hyperion employee Rhys and con artist Fiona on a cash grab hijinx. If you didn’t give Telltale’s take on the goofy sci-fi series a shot back when it first released, it seems worth going back for after it returns. After playing just the first episode, Adam Smith (RPS in peace) called Tales From The Borderlands the funniest adventure game that Telltale had release in years....
As with the original tribute which was quietly mentioned in the game’s update notes, the permanent addition is listed in the August 21st update notes. One of the bronze statues from the original tribute has been added to a busted up silo on the “cp_granary” map. Looks like the location of the statue is the one used in the animated short “Meet The Soldier” in which The Soldier gives a speech with an interesting interpretation of Sun Tzu’s The Art Of War....
