EA teased the upcoming bunks a week ago and now we’ve got a proper, if brief, look at them. Stacked beds are pretty darn cute, as made abdundantly clear by these kiddos in their adorable room full of other kiddie furniture. Thank goodness they’ve even have a proper ladder climbing animation too. The standard use for bunk beds is all well and good. They look sweet in a kid’s room....
As Rebecca explained, The Sims 4 has had an on-again, off-again “incest glitch” for a long time, and the recent High School Years expansion was just its latest appearance. This update has reportedly now fixed the problem. It’s also fixed a couple of other substantial glitches, including Sims aging or de-aging when leaving Create A Sim and, erk, adult sims tagging teens in “flirtatious Social Bunny posts.” Here’s the full list of patch notes: I wonder if that Get Famous fix extends to one of the more wholesome recent glitches, in which family pets could be recognised by the game as up-and-coming Hollywood stars....
The System Shock remake was first announced back in 2015, following Nightdive’s work on remastering the original game for its Enhanced Edition. The most recent update on System Shock’s progress was shared in a Kickstarter post last month, when Nightdive said they were in the “final stage of fine-tuning and polishing”. The bundle has a little something for everyone with top-down RPGs, board games, visual novels, and just generally weird thingamabobs. Lots of the featured games look interesting, although a few, in particular, caught my eye. Do I Pass? is one of the featured visual novels that follows a trans woman with anxiety about whether or not she ‘passes’ as female. She’s soon able to transform into a ghost - the classic white sheets kind - to peek into others’ minds and find out what they’re thinking....
Developers Inspired Entertainment have been running simulated virtual sports on their own channels for years. But with Covid-19 making a live show irresponsible and unworkable, The Virtual Grand National has wrangled a TV spot on ITV tonight at 5pm. As the one horse-racing event the UK gets really into, The Grand National is an absurd annual event. Every April, the last vestiges of the landed gentry descend on a racecourse outside Liverpool, donning garish hats more expensive than my monthly rent to watch horses slam into hedges for ten minutes....
We owe a great deal of thanks to Hazelight Studios for launching their latest co-op adventure on Friday, because we wouldn’t have much to talk about, without it. While our Headlines & Hot Takes are lacking a bit of oomph this week, we did still find some cool-looking indie games that were announced at both the Future Games Show and the id@Xbox showcases. And, Razer are making a silly facemask, and that allowed us to talk about Bane for a bit, so that was nice....
Amy was a running champ in the Paralympics before things went all dead and bitey in Los Angeles. That means she’s pretty good at sprinting around to whack zombies upside the head. She’s a laid back Californian with two useful innate skills that could help her, and you, survive the apocalypse. First up, Amy regains stamina when smacking a zombie with a thrown weapon thanks to her Relief Pitcher skill....
It’s again a game about climbing a mountain, but this time you’ve got a grapple hook rather than an air dash. It still lets you move laterally and cling to vertical surfaces, but it’s a lot trickier to use it to climb. Noel Berry, one of the game’s developers, said on Twitter that it took 3 days to make, which sounds impressive to me, who will take 3 days to get past the game’s second level....
Get the Samsung Odyssey G4 for £199 (was £243) The Odyssey G4 hasn’t been granted the privilege of an RPS review just yet, but the fine folks over at RTings rate it highly for gaming thanks to low input lag and quick pixel response times, courtesy of that IPS panel. This model also comes with both G-Sync compatibility and FreeSync support, so you can eliminate screen tearing and reduce judder without the traditional input lag penalty of standard v-sync on any brand graphics hardware....
The RTX 3060 graphics chip and 15.6in, 1920x1080, 300Hz display aren’t the only appealing things about this gaming laptop, either. A modder called George is currently working on the Crusader Blade mod which lets you have your crusade and eat it too. You’ll need to own both games because the mod acts like a bridge between the two. “Crusader Kings sends parameters such as the number of troops, the militancy of the army commander (game character) and other warriors, the types of troops, the type of terrain, and others to Mount & Blade through a special gateway,” George explains on the mod’s Patreon page....
Right now there’s little information about what games, panels or other activities are available at the show. The EGX site does outline the health & safety measures being taken in light of Covid-19. EGX returned to physical events last October in London after a Covid-caused hiatus. It was a smaller event than normal, though RPS was there as always to present panels. RPS will be present at EGX Birmingham at the NEC, too, with the specifics to be confirmed....
Also added this past week: the Shadowrun Trilogy, Total War: Three Kingdoms, Naraka: Bladepoint. And Far Cry 5 will arrive on July 1st. Total War: Three Kingdoms is generally considered one of the better modern entries of Creative Assembly’s historical strategy series; the Shadowrun Trilogy is a series of turn-based cyberpunk RPGs which get better with each entry; Naraka Bladepoint is a third-person samurai battle royale with fun movement; and, lastly, Far Cry 5 is… Well, it’s a lesser Far Cry, but there’s a bow and arrow and there are forts so I still played it for 20 hours....
