Best wings in Terraria
Solar Wings: For 10 Luminite Bars and 14 Solar Fragments, the Solar Wings give great overall stats. I’d say these are generally the best wings in Terraria. Stardust Wings: Made with 10 Luminite Bars and 14 Stardust Fragments, these have the highest flight height of 413 feet for a drop in speed compared to similar wings. Vortex Booster: These wings can let you fly at great speed, at quite a low height. They’re made with 10 Luminite Bars and 14 Vortex Fragments. Betsy’s Wings: For defeating Betsy, you’ll get wings that are as fast as the Vortex Booster, but have a higher base height. Fishron Wings: After beating Duke Fishron, you may get these wings. These have average stats, but are better for flying in terrain that’s difficult to navigate while flying: lava, honey, and water.
How to make your first wings in Terraria
You will first need to defeat the Wall of Flesh boss to unlock Hardmode. Check out our Terraria bosses guide for strategies on how to defeat it. Once you’ve unlocked Hardmode, there are multiple types of wings you can create, but the easiest ones to make are the angel wings and demon wings. To make wings in Terraria, you will need to combine the following items at a Mythril anvil or an Orichalcum anvil:
10 Feathers 25 Souls of Light (angel) or 25 Souls of Night (demon) 20 Souls of Flight
We’ll go over each of the components you will need and where to find them in the following segments.
How to get feathers
You’ll need to defeat Harpies to get feathers. Harpies are be found in the sky level. Farm the feathers before defeating the Wall of Flesh, as only the Harpies will spawn in the sky level during pre-Hardmode. The sky level is found at the following heights:
Small map: 300+ feet Medium map: 500+ feet Large map: 1000+ feet
As soon as you’ve built your way up into the sky, deploy a long platform to stand on. I would recommend building this as early as you can, then when the Blood Moon occurs, climb up to the sky level. You’ll then be able to farm Harpies until you get as many feathers as you will need.
Making a Mythril or Orichalcum anvil
This bit requires that you upgrade your anvils and pickaxes to Hardmode level gear, so will probably take the longest time to complete. Once you’ve unlocked Hardmode, break open Demon or Crimson altars in either the Underground Corruption or Underground Crimson biomes with the Pwnhammer (obtained by defeating the Wall of Flesh). A message will appear on screen when you break these altars One of them will eventually say “Your world has been blessed with Mythril!” or “Your world has been blessed with Orichalcum!” How do I mine Mythril or Orichalcum? Whichever ore you decide to mine, you’ll need to either go into the Underworld biome to mine Mythril in the ceiling (the one that looks like hell) or the Ocean biome to mine Orichalcum. Both need at least a Cobalt pickaxe or better to mine. Cobalt ores can be smelted into bars to create this pickaxe. The ores can appear by breaking Demon/Crimson altars and need the Hellstone pickaxe or better (the ores for which are found in the Underworld biome and are mined using the Nightmare Pickaxe. Nightmare Pickaxes can be made from 12 Demonite bars (their ores can be mined with a gold pickaxe or better and are found near Hell) and six Shadow Scales (dropped by the Eater of Worlds boss).
How to get Soul of Flight
You’ll need to defeat Wyverns to get the Soul of Flight. Wyverns can also be found in the sky level. The sky level is found at the following heights:
Small map: 300+ feet Medium map: 500+ feet Large map: 1000+ feet
As soon as you’ve built your way up into the sky, deploy a long platform to stand on. It attacks in a similar way to regular worm enemies, only it isn’t hindered by a lack of ground. You’ll want to dodge the Wyvern as much as possible as it can hurt for quite a lot of damage. It’s also rather durable at 4000 HP on Classic Mode and 8000 on Expert/Master mode. Once it’s defeated, it’ll drop between 5-10 Souls of Flight on Classic Mode and 10-20 on Expert/Master mode.
How to get Soul of Night
Those who want demon wings should get Soul of Night instead of Soul of Light. After defeating the Wall of Flesh, you’ll be able to kill monsters in the Crimson/Corruption biome to have a chance to get Soul of Night. Here are some tips to speed up this process:
Make sure there are plenty of Ebonstone or Crimstone blocks in the vicinity as you need them around to get a chance for souls to appear. To make your own artificial Hallow biome, place at least 146 blocks of either Ebonstone or Crimstone, mined from the Crimson or Corruption with the Nightmare Pickaxe. Nightmare Pickaxes can be made from 12 Demonite bars (their ores can be mined with a gold pickaxe or better and are found near Hell) and six Shadow Scales (dropped by the Eater of Worlds boss)
How to get Soul of Light
If you prefer making angel wings, you’ll want Soul of Light instead of Soul of Night. After defeating the Wall of Flesh, you’ll be able to kill monsters in the Hallow biome to have a chance to get Soul of Light. Here are some tips to speed up this process:
Make sure there are plenty of Pearlstone blocks in the vicinity as you need them around to get a chance for souls to appear. To make your own artificial Hallow biome, place at least 146 blocks of either Ebonstone or Crimstone, mined from the Crimson or Corruption with the Nightmare Pickaxe, then put some Holy Water on it. You can make Holy Water with 10 bottled water, 2 pixie dust, and one hallowed seed. Nightmare Pickaxes can be made from 12 Demonite bars (their ores can be mined with a gold pickaxe or better and are found near Hell) and six Shadow Scales (dropped by the Eater of Worlds boss)
Once you’ve got all the components, combine them at the Mythril/Orichalcum anvil to make wings! You can then fly around to your heart’s content.
